So you’re heading to Belize, eh? LUCKY YOU! I’d love to help you with your Belize packing list. Belize is my favorite country on the planet (so far). The great news is Belize has absolutely perfect weather so no matter what time of year you will be visiting you’re sure to have great weather. This also makes packing for a trip to Belize a little easier.
Let’s Talk About the Weather
One of the best things about Belize is the weather. Although it is a tropical destination, the yearly average temperature is only 84° F (29°C). Belize’s coastal breezes and expansive jungle and rainforest provide relief on even the hottest of days. Temperatures in the summer average around 86°F (30°C) and dip down to 60°F (16°C) in the winter.
Belize has two seasons, the wet and the dry. Belize’s dry season is between February and May. June through December are the wet seasons- we’re talking 150 inches of rain.
The Nitty Gritty
Shopping in Belize isn’t ideal, you’re definitely going to want to make sure you pack everything that you need! To make sure nothing important gets left behind, I’ll be breaking down the ultimate Belize vacation packing list. I hope this packing list and these travel tips will help you have a great time on your vacation!
Belize Packing List Essentials
When you’re getting ready for Belize, there are some things that you absolutely must have with you. All of these items should be in your suitcase, purse, and/or carry-on.
Passport
You absolutely must have your passport to travel to Belize. If you are visiting as a tourist, you do not require a visa. Visitors planning to stay more than 30 days must have their passport re-stamped by a local immigration office and pay an additional fee for every additional month they wish to stay, up to six months.
Driver’s License
Visitors planning to drive in Belize will need to be 18 years or older and have a valid driver’s license or international driving permit in order to rent a car and/or drive around legally. If you have a US driver’s license do not worry, it is a valid driver’s license in Belize.
Portable and Plug-in Chargers
Obviously, you’re going to be taking a ton of pictures on your trip. You most definitely are going to want to pack a portable power bank for your phone. While you’re thinking about chargers you better grab all of the chargers for your electronics: phone charger, laptop charger, tablet charger, smartwatch charger, and maybe even an electric toothbrush charger!
The Anker PowerPort Cube Power Strip has 3 outlets, 3 USB ports and includes a 5 foot extension cord.
I use the Anker PowerCore 10000 Portable Charger for charging things on the go.
Belize uses 110 volts, 60 cycle electricity, same as the US. Plugs are typically the 2 pronged flat types so US travelers will not typically need a converter or adapter. Outlets rarely have 3 holes so if your device has a third prong, bring an adapter.
Camera & SD Card
Sure, you could just bring your phone along for photos but you’ll probably want to bring a legit camera along as well. I suggest a Nikon D5600 for high-quality photos. While you’re grabbing your camera, don’t forget our SD card! I travel with a 64 GB memory SD card. If you’re feeling wild, you can go for a 128 GB SD memory card.
If you’re planning on spending time at The Blue Hole, Caye Caulker, Ambergris Caye, or anywhere else on the coast you’ll probably want to have an underwater camera, as well. Those of you who will be using a phone as a camera, make sure you get a waterproof phone case. I take one of these with me on all of my trips to Central America and the Caribbean.
Cash $$$
It’s always a good idea to have some cash on hand. Be careful about carrying around large amounts of money. I suggest only having $100 (broken into small bills) on your person.
You do not have to exchange your money for Belize dollars. Belize merchants will gladly accept US dollars.
Credit Cards
You most likely won’t be able to use your debit card in Belize however, most major credit cards are accepted. Larger hotels, restaurants, and shops will typically be able to accept Visa and MasterCard. You can also use a credit card to obtain cash advances at major banks. I use a travel wallet to keep my passport, cards, and money safe in one place.
Travel Umbrella
If you’re traveling to Belize during the wet season, you’ll definitely want to pack an umbrella. June through December are the wet seasons- we’re talking 150 inches of rain. I pack an EEZ-Y Windproof Travel Umbrella.
Sun Care
Trust me, there’s nothing worse than getting sunburned on a vacation. Plan on using a
Mosquito Repellent
Belize has a subtropical climate so there are mosquitoes, bugs and other insects buzz around mostly in the early mornings and late evening. However, in most areas, most time of the year they are that not annoying.
If you’re spending time in the jungle or rainforest, you’ll want to pack some insect repellent. As Floridians (aka people used to mosquitos) we travel with Cliganic Mosquito Repellent Bracelets everywhere we go. Bullfrog always makes a Mosquito Coast 2 in 1 Sunscreen and Insect Repellent that is water-resistant. I always toss it in my day bag when I’m in the jungle and rainforest.
Medications
You should always pack your necessary prescription medications in your carry-on bag. Make sure they are in their original containers.
What to Wear on the Plane to Belize
Although you’ll be traveling to a tropical destination, you may want to dress a little more warmly on your flight. Since airplanes are typically cool, you’ll want to dress in layers. Consider wearing a tank top with a light sweater, a light hoodie or a long sleeve shirt. I also usually don’t wear shorts on a plane because my legs tend to get cold.
Make sure you wear shoes that are easy to slide on and off and consider leaving your belt in your suitcase. If you plan on packing a large floppy sun hat, you may want to bring it on the plane so that it doesn’t get squished in your suitcase.
FUN FACT:
These adorable little cocktail sets are perfect for a drink on the go. Believe it or not, they are TSA compliant! They are great for travel days but also would be handy on an impromptu picnic!
What to Wear During the Day
Keep in mind that the average temperature in Belize is 84 degrees. It’s also typically super humid. Consider packing clothing that will be comfortable in this climate.
You’ll also want to consider what activities you’ll be doing on your trip. If you’re spending most of your time on the coast you’ll want to focus on coverups, bathing suits, and sandals. If you’re heading to the jungle and rainforest to zip-line or going to the ruins of Xunantunich and Cahal Pech you’ll want to pack activewear. I usually wear breathable yoga pants, a t-shirt, comfortable tennis shoes, sunglasses, and a hat when I’m in western Belize.
The dress code in Belize is super laid back. It’s cool if you stick with casual outfits.
Misc. Electronics
Kindle
If you don’t want to lug a guide book around, you may want to invest in a Kindle. These are a great alternative to packing physical books. They take up way less space! The Kindle Paperwhite is waterproof making it a great option for travel.
AirPods
These headphones are MADE for travel. They are compact, lightweight, and recharge themselves when they are in the case. AirPods are great to have on the plane, train, or when relaxing by the pool or on the beach!
Other Items for Your Belize Packing List
Scanned Copies of Important Items
It is always smart to carry a scanned copy of the information page of your passport. That way, if you misplace it it’s easier for you to get a replacement. Make sure you pack it in a different place than you keep your physical passport. You can also take a photo of it and store it on your phone.
Packing Cubes
Guys! Packing cubes are LIFE! They are the perfect way to keep your suitcase neat and organized. They have been a total game changer for me!
First Aid Kit
Raise your hand if you’re a klutz like me! Anybody? If you’re anything like me then you totally need to pack a first aid kit. I take one with me when I travel.
Guide Books
If you are a terrestrial traveler, rather than a cruiser, you may want to pack along a guide book. I’m a Lonely Planet fan.

Packing can be one of the most stressful parts of your trip. I mean… essentially you’re going to be living off of whatever you toss into your suitcase. Of course, there’s always the option of buying items in port but who wants to spend their trip shopping for toothpaste? Purchasing everything you need for your Cruise Beach and Pool Bag will save you the hassle of hunting down these items in port.
For me, organization is the key when it comes to packing. I like to have everything I need at arms reach. I use packing cubes and individual bags to help me keep everything nice and organized. That way when it’s time to hit the beach or pool, I have exactly what I need. The same can be said for when I’m spending time in the jungle or on a walking tour. The faster I can be out the door, the better!
Today I’m going to share with you what I keep in my 13 Things I Keep in my Cruise Beach and Pool Bag. I mean… after all, that is the reason most of us go on a cruise, am I right? I fill my beach bag with both the essentials and items that you may not have thought about.
13 Things I Keep in my Cruise Beach and Pool Bag
1. Sunscreen- The first thing I always stash away in my bag is sunscreen. Cruisers often underestimate the UV Rays in the Caribbean. Even as a Floridian, I can easily get color in the islands. I carry around sunscreen of various strengths so I can switch it up depending on how much color I have already gotten during my trip. Trust me, there is nothing worse than being burnt like a lobster on Day 1 of your cruise. Don’t forget to protect your lips, as well!
2. A Towel– Of course, you have to bring a towel along, right? I don’t bring one of my own personal towels from home rather, I use one of the ship’s towels. Quick-dry beach towels come in handy if you plan on doing more than just hitting the beach (ie: shopping, fitting in an excursion, etc.)
Pro- Tip: These towels can be taken off the ship as well, just make sure you don’t lose it! There will be a fine if you do.
3. Aloe– I always, always, always pack aloe with me on a cruise. I keep it in my fridge when I’m in the cabin and take it into port with me. I got absolutely fried in Aruba. Despite the fact that I was wearing sunscreen, I got burnt to a crisp. I was miserable in my next port, Grand Turk. Since then, I always make sure I have aloe on me juuuuuuuusssssssstttt in case.
4. A metal tumbler or water bottle– Remaining hydrated is super important while traveling, especially if you’re going to be drinking. I bring a water bottle with me into port and carry a tumbler around when I’m poolside. I use a metal tumbler so it stays cold longer and I replenish it with water or juice throughout the day so I don’t risk getting dehydrated.
5. Towel Clips– Towel clips are the latest addition to my beach and pool bag. They are most definitely a novelty, and not totally a necessity but it is nice to not have to worry about your towel flying overboard.
6. Hair Brush– I hate how tangly my hair gets after swimming in saltwater. I like to run a brush through my hair before leaving the beach or before leaving the pool area. I travel with a collapsible brush so that it doesn’t take up much space.
7. Hair Tie– Ladies! Always, always, always bring a hair tie along. The decks of the ship can be very windy and your hair will be a hot tangled mess if you don’t wear it up. This is always super handy to have when you’re going on boating excursions.
8. Sarong/Cover Up– I bought the cutest sarong in St. Thomas and I bring that thing with me everywhere. It’s great to have on hand so you can throw it on real quick if you need a refill or some fruit (or pizza!) from the buffet. Sarongs are super versatile! They can be used as a cover-up, a scarf, a headwrap, an extra storage bag, and even a sling (trust me, I’ve done it!).
9. Ear Buds– Bust out your earbuds and crank up your beach playlist! Earbuds are a great way to drown out background noise and get the most of your “me time”. If you don’t have earbuds at the pool, no worries- there is usually a band or some tunes playing.
10. Kindle Paperwhite– I used to always have a book on hand when I’m on vacation! Now I travel with a Kindle Paperwhite. It has an adjustable screen so that it is easy to read outdoors and it is waterproof making it the perfect e-reader for the beach or pool. Easy reads like The Stephanie Plum Series by Janet Evanovich and anything by Chelsea Handler are great to read while relaxing in the sun.
11. Gallon Size Bag- I pack a handful of these when I cruise. They are great for keeping documents and phones safe and dry, preserving small souvenirs, and for storing wet bathing suits and clothes. They take up practically no space and are super lightweight- so why not?
12. A Hat– Hats are a must for the beach or pool. They are a great way to keep the sun out of your eyes and for keeping your hair somewhat tamed.
13. Snorkel Gear- Okay, so obviously I don’t use my snorkel gear in the pool (that stops being cool at like the age of 12) but it is great to have on hand at the beach. If you book a snorkeling excursion, the company will most likely provide you with the equipment however, I still like to bring my own. It’s also great to have on hand when you’re just doing a beach day. I bought this full face snorkel mask and it worked perfectly!

Hey, y’all! If you’ve been around the blog for a while you know that I’m an avid cruiser. Some of our favorite cruise ports are in Mexico, Honduras, Belize, and Alaska. One of the most fun things about cruising is being able to head into port for a few hours to explore. When you disembark the ship, there are a few things cruisers need in port.
Things Cruisers Need in Port
1. Sail & Sign Card (or band, or medallion)
This is probably the most important thing cruisers need to have while in port. You’ll need your Sail & Sign Card, band, or medallion to check yourself in and out of the ship. This gives the crew real-time information about who is on board and who is still out exploring.
2. Identification
There are some destinations where simply having your ship card will suffice as identifications, however, there are ports where you’ll need government-issued identification to get through port security. I leave my passport locked away in my room safe and take my driver’s license with me to port. I use this travel wallet to keep all of my items together in one place.
3. Money
Okay… so this might sound obvious but you’re going to need access to some money. While you’re on the ship your ship card is attached to your bank account however, this won’t work in the port. Make sure you have a credit card, debit card, or cash money on you in port.
Pro Tip- Almost everywhere you go will accept American currency, especially if you’re purchasing goods close to the port.
4. Phone
We live in a society where we are tied to our phones. Make sure you take your phone with you when you get off the ship. It’s great for emergencies, and to use as a camera. Just keep in mind that you may have roaming fees if you use your phone out of the country. I keep my phone in a waterproof case while I’m on the beach. I strongly suggest getting a waterproof case, even if you don’t intend on taking in the water.
5. A Watch
If you take your phone off of airplane mode, the time will adjust to the local time zone. Remember, as a cruiser you need to stay on ship time. Make sure you have a watch or keep your phone on airplane mode, so you don’t lose track of ship time.
6. Sunblock
Trust me, there is nothing worse than being sunburned on a cruise- especially if it happens early on into your cruise. Do yourself a favor and lather up! You can still get a sunburn if it is overcast and many people are not used to the UV index. Pack a good sunscreen and a Chapstick with UV protection.
7. Water
While we’re on the topic of taking care of yourself, make sure you take some water with you. Remaining hydrated is essential when you are in tropical climates. It is very easy to get dehydrated… especially if you’re drinking or soaking up the sun at the beach.
8. Mosquito Repellent
If you’re going to be spending time outdoors, it’s a good idea to spray yourself with a repellent. Many cruise lines provide aerosol cans at the gangway in high-risk areas (such as Belize) but don’t rely on them having it. It’s best to be pro-active. I use Bull Frog Mosquito Coast which is a combination of repellent and sunscreen. Two birds… one stone.
9. Gallon Size Bag
These little guys are so versatile! I always pack a few when I am traveling. They are great for storing wet bathing suits and keeping documents dry. You can also fill it half-full of ice and use it as a neck wrap in the event someone is overheated.
10. Pen and Paper
I actually take a Sharpie with me everywhere I go. It’s a super handy tool to have on hand. If Sharpie’s aren’t your thing, I suggest sticking a pen and a small notepad in your bag. You can use this to jot down important information such as boarding times, directions, etc.
